IndexNow setup without the guesswork
Verify ownership, notify participating engines, and read the response without confusing it with an indexing result.
Know what the notification means
IndexNow lets a site notify participating search engines when a URL is added, updated, or deleted. It is a change signal. An accepted request does not prove that an engine crawled the page or included it in search.
Keep that distinction visible in your workflow. A useful log records the URL, the change you intended to report, the time of the request, and the response. An indexing observation belongs in a separate field.
Verify the setup before a larger run
Follow the official protocol documentation to create and host your verification key. Confirm that the key file is publicly accessible at the configured location and that it belongs to the host you are notifying engines about.
In GetIndexed, configure the hosted verification key on your site's Indexing page. Begin with one changed public page and inspect the result before expanding the run.
Build notifications into publishing
Assign responsibility for notifications when a release adds, updates, or removes pages. Keep the process close to the publishing event so the team can explain why a particular URL was sent.
If a request fails, fix the recorded cause before retrying. Keep a small test case available after changes to routing, domain configuration, or the key file. Consult the protocol for response codes and current request requirements.
